Another group of planthoppers that belong to the insect Family Fulgoridae possess some unique features that include highly structured head protrusions and tails that are filamentous and wavy. The most famous insect belonging to this group is the "Lantern bug" of the tropics. It has a big head but does nit produce light (as the name suggests). They are ardent suckers of plant juices. Myths surrounding this insect were believed to have originated from the Amazonian Indians who theorized that this insect is very poisonous and is a potent aphrodisiac. |
